Hunting Diamonds in the Digital Rubble
How I got into Domain Flipping, and what this Substack is all about
Welcome to my first post on this Substack. I am not a full time domain flipper. I have a regular job, but I spend my spare time hunting for digital real estate that I can buy low and sell high. The goal is to eventually build enough momentum to leave my day job behind. For those who are new to this world, flipping domains involves purchasing a name like coolname.com for a small registration fee and then listing it for a much higher margin. This can range anywhere from five hundred dollars to fifty thousand dollars depending on the name.
My journey started when I bought MissionEquality.com for fifteen dollars. I listed it on a marketplace for five hundred dollars and three months later it sold. Since that first win, I have been hooked on the process. The beauty of this side hustle is that it can be as passive or as active as you want it to be. You can take the approach I took with my first sale by finding a name you believe someone will want and letting it sit until the right buyer finds it. On the other hand, you can be more aggressive by actively reaching out to potential suitors to pitch the value of the name.
The reason I started this publication is that I genuinely enjoy sifting through the rubble to find a diamond in the rough. The reality is that there are thousands of great domains out there and I cannot possibly buy them all myself. I wanted to create a space where I could share the names I find valuable so that you might be able to flip them for your own margins. Beyond just sharing names, I want to build a small community of people who are also looking for ways to break free of their day jobs. We can explore how to make money passively by flipping these digital assets together. My plan is to post five domain brand breakdowns two or three times a week. You can read my logic for each name and decide if it is a good fit for your portfolio.
In addition to the regular breakdowns, I am planning to do a deep dive at the end of every month. These will focus on domains that have recently dropped and returned to the public pool that I think have incredible potential. Please keep in mind that I am still getting used to a regular writing schedule, so I hope you will bear with me as I find my rhythm. I am excited to share these finds with you and see what we can discover in the marketplace together.
